Sustainable land use systems
Rapid population growth, urbanization, rising incomes and resource constraints are putting pressure on agriculture and forests, food security and livelihoods.
In the next 35 years, we’ll need to produce 70% more food calories and four times as much wood to meet demand. And deforestation is causing 15% of greenhouse gas emissions. It also contributes to soil erosion, water cycle disruption and loss of biodiversity.

Circular industrial systems
Today’s industrial development relies on linear ‘take, make, dispose’ economic model. This model is too resource-intensive, wasteful (a car is only productively used 2% of the time) and often harmful to human health and ecosystems. New, disruptive technology gives us the opportunity for a new model of production and consumption. Through better materials, beneficial resource loops, new business models, we can reconcile prosperity and planet.

New energy systems
In the next 15 years, energy demand is predicted to grow by 25–35%. Today, an estimated 3.7 million people per annum die prematurely because of air pollution. And CO2 emissions from fossil fuel already make up two thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions.
