Building a better world with lower-carbon materials

Embodied emissions in the built environment – emissions arising from the construction and renovation of buildings and infrastructure – have a major impact on climate change, and global demand for construction materials will remain strong in the coming decades.

As the built environment looks to reduce its climate impact, decarbonising the production processes of concrete and steel is projected to have the most significant long-term effect. But how can material efficiency and lower-carbon alternatives lower emissions sooner? This paper provides answers for materials manufacturers, developers, investors and policy makers.
