Creating a Circular Economy means moving to a more regenerative system, in which we use fewer resources, waste less, and radically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

50

economic, scientific and societal institutions are working towards a circular economy in Germany

Together with acatech, the National Academy of Science and Engineering, SYSTEMIQ is leading the Circular Economy Initiative Deutschland (CEID).

The initiative brings together over 50 economic, scientific and societal organisations to develop a joint vision and a plan to accelerate the transition toward a circular economy in Germany.

By end of 2020, CEID will be publishing a series of reports focused on circular business models, packaging, and traction batteries. The reports build the ground work for the national Circular Economy Roadmap in Germany which will be handed over to the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in 2021.

For too long, our human well-being and economic activities have come at too high a cost in environmental damage.  Policy makers, business, science and civil society are beginning to understand how a more resource-efficient approach could change the way we live for the better. But what would this transition to a Circular Economy look like?

The CEID works to:

  • develop a shared vision for Germany,
  • investigate specific applications and support their implementation, and
  • identify enabling factors for a Circular Economy,

as a way of reconciling environmental goals with greater productivity, innovative capability, competitiveness and employment.
