Created by Delterra, The Recycling Partnership and Systemiq, with support from Walmart.org, Plastic IQ is a data-driven digital platform that leverages industry best practices and data so companies can build action plans and achieve circularity goals.

A new platform for 2024, Packaging IQ 2.0 will provide data-driven insights to optimize your portfolio’s packaging sustainability at scale. Developed by Delterra and Systemiq, with support from the Walmart Foundation, Packaging IQ 2.0 is the next evolution of Plastic IQ.

Plastic IQ currently operates in Brazil, Indonesia and the USA. The platform allows companies to prioritise actions to address plastic packaging waste, meet their sustainability goals, and ultimately accelerate progress toward a circular economy.

Because Plastic IQ is available at no cost, companies of all sizes and resources can analyse their plastic packaging data using three digital tools: Pro, Lite and the Solutions Database.

The platform aims to solve to problems associated with packaging decisions by providing:

  • A single source of truth and decision making framework
  • A built-in analytics dashboard for analysis across markets and brands
  • A view of the regulatory impact on packaging decisions, updated with latest legislation
  • Pooled data collection across several companies to reduce collection cost and increase alignment

Plastic IQ Pro helps companies understand the impact of their plastic packaging portfolio and design detailed and robust strategies to improve their performance over time. The tool takes companies through a series of steps to identify ways to use less plastic, promote better packaging, and contribute to a better system.

Plastic IQ Lite is designed to raise awareness and help users navigate the complex world of sustainable packaging, before moving onto Pro. The Lite tool is a good starting point for users early in their circularity journey!

The Solutions Database is a detailed guide of global best practices for reducing plastic waste and relevant case studies of applying those in the local context.

Plastic IQ is now fully available in the US, Brazil, and Indonesia, with plans to further expand its reach in the Global South. It enables companies of all sizes and resources looking to address plastic packaging waste and work towards a circular economy to prioritise actions, meet sustainability goals, and contribute to a better system for plastic packaging waste management.
