The International Resource Panel (IRP), hosted by the UN, makes world-class research on global resource use accessible to governments, businesses and communities. With the aim to steer the world away from overconsumption, waste and ecological harm to a more sustainable future of decoupled prosperity. SYSTEMIQ is supporting the IRP to define its strategy and increase its impact over the next 3 years.

Details

The IRP was launched by the UN Environment Programme as a way to connect science with policy in 2007. It provides independent scientific assessments on the sustainable use of natural resources, with a focus on environmental impacts. The work provides recommendations on how to shape policy and decouple growth. The Panel consists of more than 35 eminent scientists from around the world drawn from a wide range of academic institutions and scientific disciplines.

IRP’s research is increasingly being used by leading bodies such as the G7, G20 and UNEA. Building on this, SYSTEMIQ is supporting the IRP in the engagement with new audiences particularly in the private sector. Collaborative work included the development of the ‘Implications for Business Leaders’ report of the Global Resources Outlook 2019.
